Gold worth Rs 12 lakh seized from five thieves

Mysuru, September 22:- Devaraja Police have arrested five men accused of robbing an elderly couple of gold worth Rs 12 lakh.

On September 17 when PSI S Raju was on patrol, he noticed some people trying to sell a gold chain at a shop near Shivaya Namah Mutt Road. When he checked, he realised something was amiss. While two men were planning to sell the gold chain, another three men were standing near an auto-rickshaw.

The five men were taken into custody and questioned. One Jajee who was in possession of a gold chain was unable to give a proper explanation. When grilled further, the five men spilled the beans.

The arrested have been identified as auto-rickshaw driver Zabiullah Sharif, Rahman Sharif, Ibrahim Ahmed, 24, Khasif, 22, Suresh, 42 and Grish B S. They would look for elderly couples before robbing them.

According to the information given by Girish, the five men hatched a plan to rob the elderly couple. A TV, refrigerator, cot, sofa and washing machine have been seized from the arrested.

Under the guidance of DCPs Dr A N Prakash Gowda and Geetha Prasanna, Devaraja Inspector Prasanna Kumar-led team comprising PSI Raju, ASI Uday Kumar, cops Somashetty, Venugopal, Nandish, Pradeep, Chandru, Veeresh Bagewadi and Nagaraju conducted the raid. (MR/KS)
