Government School children voice their grievances

Grievances against lack of facilities including toilets, playground and adequate rooms in government schools poured in at an interaction meeting between children of the Government School and Chairperson, Karnataka State Commission for the Protection of Child Rights Krupa Alwa during the valedictory function of their 15-day summer camp for children from slum areas at Jaganmohan Palace, here on Friday. Apart from these, students belonging to Kyathmaranahalli Government High School also complained about worms in their midday meals and when it was brought to the teacher’s notice, they were beaten.

Girl students at Government School also complained that due to lack of toilet facilities in schools, they were forced to go to their respective houses to use the toilet. Students from Kelanapura Government High School complained that due to the rude behaviour on the part of teachers many students were not interested in attending classes. After hearing their grievances, Shivaram, Education Officer, Mysuru district said “Really it’s surprising to know the various problems these children face.

The headmaster of the concerned school should make a note of these complaints and bring it to the notice of concerned BEOs or DDPI. The problems should not be allowed to grow but should be solved”. With regard to the demand for playground, Shivaram conceded that “it is difficult to provide them a playground as it is difficult to get land immediately.

But with regard to mid-day meals, I will bring the issue to the concerned officials notice.” Regarding teacher’s harassment of students at Kelanapura GHS, he called upon the students to give it in writing so that stringent action can be taken against the concerned teachers. Krupa Alwa who was very upset with the problems of the children, called upon the authorities to address all the issues at the earliest and also come out with an alternate arrangement for a playground as it violates child rights. She also urged the students to give a complaint if teachers harass them.
