Prime News, National, New Delhi, March 20:- The Opposition, led by Congress, on Tuesday blamed the BJP-led NDA government for the ongoing standoff in Parliament and charged it of running away from discussing issues of public concern like bank scams and granting special category status to Andhra Pradesh.
Addressing a joint press conference here, leaders of several Opposition parties alleged that the government has failed to reach out to them, to resolve the logjam in Parliament.
Talking to reporters here, leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad said leaders of 10 Opposition parties on Tuesday morning met Rajya Sabha Chairperson M Venkaiah Naidu, in a bid to end the Parliament logjam and resume business in both Houses.
The decision was taken during a meeting of Opposition leaders, which was held in Parliament premises.
‘We felt that there should be discussion in Parliament on important issues like the bank scams, demand for special category status for Andhra Pradesh and the Cauvery issue. Wee met him to convey to him that both the Houses should function,’ Azad said.
He, however, alleged that even though the Rajya Sabha Chairman had made efforts to solve the impasse, no effort had been made by the government to reach out to the Opposition.
‘The government has not made any effort to reach out to the Opposition. It seems that the government is not interested in running Parliament. I said this in Parliament also,’ the Congress veteran added. –(NGB, Inputs: Agencies)
