“There is a wrong message being spread that those studying in Kannada medium schools would not land up in government job which is leading to decrease in the number of students in Kannada medium school. This notion was baseless,” said litterateur Bannur K Raju.
Speaking at a programme organised to mark the Kannada Rajyotsava on Sunday, the litterateur pointed out that Kannada language has a history of over 1,000 years. There were icons like M Vishveshvaraiah, C V Raman who studied Kannada medium and became famous internationally. The three Jnanapeetha awardees were also students of Kannada,” he said.
Raju said that there were attempts to belittle Kannada language by spreading false propaganda against it. “We should not pay heed to such information that is keeping our children away from Kannada medium schools. Every language has its own value. There was a never-ending list of people who had studied in Kannada medium schools and are in high profile jobs,” he said.
He said that government schools were not inferior to private schools as thought by many. In fact, he added teachers at government schools were more qualified than that of private schools, thus imparting quality education to students.
