Mysuru, August 4:- The Congress has been alleging rampant corruption in the purchase of medical equipment for treating coronavirus by the state government.
Speaking to the media in the city on Tuesday (August 4), Karnataka Pradesh Congress (KPCC) spokesman M Lakshman said, “Despite repeated charges that there is rampant corruption, the government is not ready to give proper accounts.” The Congress leader was talking at the Congress office on JLB Road here.
Lakshman commented, “BJP ministers claim to have spent Rs 324 crore on the equipment but according to figures, Rs 4,000 crore has been spent by four state departments and the BJP leaders have swindled half of it. Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa had promised our leader Siddaramaiah the complete details of medical equipment purchased within 24 hours but nothing has happened. When we criticise them, BJP leaders say we are lying.”
The Congress leader said, “When KPCC chief D K Shivakumar and Siddaramaiah held a press conference on government’s corrupt practices, they were served legal notices. In fact, those who disturb public servants should be booked under IPC 186 or 353. The police department should have taken action against BJP MLC Ravi Kumar and Deputy Chief Minister Dr C N Ashwath Narayan. We are pointing a finger at the corruption and not against the government. If the BJP leaders have any scruples, they should come for an open debate.”
Training his guns on Medical Education Minister Dr K Sudhakar, Lakshman said, “This man talks as if he is very honest. An Andhra-based company was given the tender for face masks. The company got its licence very recently. The list of corruption charges is long. If the BJP leaders think they are not corrupt, they should order for a probe by a High Court Judge. Trying to scare our leaders through legal notices will not fetch you anything. We are not scared of I-T or the ED.”
The Congress leader also accused the Modi government of misleading people regarding coronavirus. “Health Minister B Sriramulu, instead of confidence-filled statements, is trying to scare the public. People are not getting the right information regarding pandemic.”
