Govt should purchase crops from farmers directly: Badagalapura Nagendra

Govt should release water from KRS Dam to save crops and supply power for 10 hours to farmers, says farmer leader Nagendra

Mysuru, April 7:- “Instead of taking back marketing trade control and development Act, column 8(2) and asking merchants to buy directly from farmers, the government should go to farms and buy the crops from farmers,” said Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha and Hasiru Sene chief Badagalapura Nagendra. He urged minister for marketing, ST Somashekar to take relevant action.

Nagendra was speaking to media persons here on Tuesday.

“Whatever the government may say, the farmers’ produce is not getting sold. The government need not resort to any drama. Ask officials to buy directly from farmers in villages,” he advised the government.

“The government is telecasting advertisements saying it would purchase crops from farmers. Can’t they see the farmers throwing vegetables, fruits and silk? Can’t Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa, Ministers B C Patil and Somashekar see this,” Nagendra asked.

“KRS Reservoir has 103 feet of water and crops in the Cauvery basin are withering. The government should take the initiative to release water immediately. CESCom has told that additional electricity will be saved due to lockdown. At least now, provide 10 hours of electricity for farmers,” he added. (MR/KS)
