Govt to amend Representation of people act to allow NRIs to vote

Prime News, July 22:- The Union government on Friday has said the Supreme Court that the law would be amended to allow voting rights for NRIs.

“A Group of Ministers met here on July 20 and decided that it is imperative to amend the Representation of the People Act for the purpose,” Attorney General K K Venugopal submitted before a bench of Chief Justice J S Khehar and Justice D Y Chandrachud.

Venugopal pointed out that instead of rules, Section 20 (a) of the R P Act would be amended to permit NRIs to exercise their franchise here.
