The state government on Wednesday transferred Mysuru Deputy Commissioner C Shikha as the Commissioner of Social Welfare Department, Bengaluru, and has posted D Randeep, the DC of Vijayapura, to her post.
Shikha has been the DC from July 2013 and has completed three years of service. She had recently hit headlines for filing a case against Marigowda, a close confidant of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, for intimidating her while discharging her official duties.
City Today was first to break the news where on July 4, 2016, the newspaper had reported that the officer might be transferred following the controversy.
Sources said that Shikha was under pressure to withdraw complaint against Marigowda but she did not oblige and stood her ground. The transfer of DC C Shikha has strengthened the view that she has been punished for this.
The transfer comes just ahead of the historical Dasara festivities. The preparations for the spectacular event that attracts lakhs of tourists have already begun and Shikha had recently participated in the Dasara Executive committee meeting too.
Many in official and political circles have expressed that Shikha had experience in successfully conducting Dasara and at least she should have been retained till festivities get over.
Former Prime Minister and JD(S) Supremo H D Devegowda who was in Mysuru on Wednesday said: “Shikha was a model to other DCs with her honest works and administrative skills. She should have not been transferred when Dasara preparations are in full swing.”
Various Kannada organisation and JD(S) MLA G T Devegowda, MLC Sandesh Nagaraj have termed the transfer of Shikha was an act of revenge against an upright officer.
Shikha’s husband M N Ajay Nagabhushan, Deputy Commissioner of Mandya district, has also been transferred and has been made the Commissioner of Food and Civil Supplies, Bengaluru.
