Govt urged to hand over LKG, UKGs to Anganwadi workers

Massive protest rally planned in Bengaluru on May 30

Mysuru, May 28:- The president of Karnataka State Anganwadi Workers’ Association Sunanda has urged the state government to appoint Anganwadi workers at the government-run LKG and UKGs being opened by the government from the current academic year.

Speaking at a press meet held at Mysuru Press Club on Monday, she said that they have requested the state government several times with regard to anganwadi workers handling LKG and UKG classes. She said the anganwadi workers should be relieved from all the the additional works and be given the responsibility of handling LKG and UKG, which is important to protect anganwadi.

“The number of children enrolling at Anganwadi centres has come down. Government should make sure that Anganwadi centres are on par with private educational institutions. Assistants should be appointed for Matrupurna scheme. We will stage a mega protest on May 30 in Bengaluru,” Sunanda added.

“More than 50,000 anganwadi workers will take part in the protest rally on May 30 from 11:30 am from the Krantivira Sangolli Rayanna City Railway Station to the Freedom Park in Bengaluru,” she said.

General secretary Kaveramma, workers Mayavathi, Pushpavathi, Vasantha, Leelavathi, Manjula and others were present. (KMR, NGB)
