Gowri Habba celebrated with religious fervour in Mysuru

Festive atmosphere pervades in heritage city on the eve of Ganesha Chaturthi

Mysuru, September 12:- Mysureans celebrated the Gowri Habba with traditional rituals and religious fervour in the city on Wednesday.

A majority of the devotees in and around Mysuru woke up early in the morning and decorated their houses, and drew colourful rangoli on the floor of the house entrance to celebrate Gowri Habba.

The devotees brought the idols of Gowri and Ganesha at the auspicious time in the wee hours today and offered ‘aarthi’ and performed the traditional rituals to welcome Gowri.

The Gowri Habba or the Gowri Festival is celebrated on the third day (thrithiya) of Bhadrapada month and while the Ganesha Festival will be observed on the next day (Charturthi).

Several devotees thronged temples across the city and offered special pujas and prayers. While in the evening those celebrating the Gowri Festival will call on relatives, neighbours and friends and offer ‘Kum Kum.’

On the eve of Ganesha Charturthi, the city markets and the Central Business District witnessed big crowd of devotees and spreading the festive atmosphere.

People were seen purchasing flowers, vegetables, puja and other paraphernalia at Devaraja Market and Vani Vilas Market in the city.

‘Bagina’ offered to pourakarmikas

As part of Gowri Habba celebrations, Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) Council member M V Ramprasad distributed special ‘Bagina’ to the pourakarmikas in the city.

Ramprasad, who was recently elected as corporator from MCC Ward 55, like every year distributed special bagina to the pourakarmikas at Tagaduru Ramachandra Rao Park here on Wednesday. -(HN,KK)
