There was celebratory mood all over the city here on Thursday. Centre’s demonetisation effect seems to have taken a back seat for a change. Enthusiastic people from all walks of life gathered in large numbers to take part in the Kanaka Jayanti, the birth anniversary of famous 15th century saint, composer and social reformer, Kanakadasa.
As a mark of respect to the social reformer, Mysuru district administration organised a procession from Kote Anjaneya temple premises where a colourful procession featuring a flower-bedecked tableau carrying the statue of poet saint Kanakadasa took the centre stage. The procession was flagged off by PWD and District In-charge Minister Dr H C Mahadevappa.
The procession started from the North gate of Mysuru Palace where artistes of various folk troupes dressed up in colourful traditional dresses performed folk dances including Dollu kunitha, Kamasale, Gombe kunitha. The procession passed through KR Circle, Sayyaji Rao Road, JLB Road and concluded at Kalamandir. Musical instruments played by various folk troupes and hundreds of community members added colour to the festive atmosphere.
MLA M K Somashekhar, former MP H Vishwanath, DC Randeep, KPCC member Mari Gowda and others were present.
The procession will be followed by stage programme at Kalamandir which will be attended by Mahadevappa.
