Actress Bharathi Vishnuvardhan gave a start to the Vishnuvardhan memorial by performing the ground breaking ceremony in Halalu village on Tuesday.
The ground breaking ceremony which was scheduled on Tuesday evening at Halalu village of H D Kote taluk was a low key ceremony. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, who was supposed to lay the foundation stone for the memorial, cancelled the programme as he had to rush to Chennai to pay his tributes to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalitha, who passed away on Monday.
As the state government declared one-day mourning in the state, the stage programme and the stone laying ceremony was cancelled. However, the family members of late Vishnuvardhan performed the rituals.
The programme was jointly organised by the Mysuru district administration, Department of Information and Public Relations and Vishnuvardhan Prathistana. The officials are yet to confirm whether a programme will be held again to lay the foundation stone for the memorial.
