Houses in several villages in Hunsur taluk have been destroyed owing to storm and heavy rain that lashed across the taluk on Sunday.
Rain that lashed the city villages nearby from afternoon until evening uprooted trees. Rains accompanied by hailstones damaged several houses. Electricity supply has been disrupted owing to tress snapping the lines. More than five electric poles at Ranganath Layout in the city have been razed to the ground due to a coconut tree falling on the poles following a storm that blew on Sunday. Whereas a transformer at Kalkunike Circle was damaged. People were inconveninced due to lack of power supply, the ginger sowing of farmers were destroyed and movement of both people and vehicles was disrupted owing to flooding of the roads.
More than ten houses in Azad Nagar on Hunsur H D Kote Road were damaged by the hailstones and inundated. Houses of Syed Muzafir and Mudafir brothers, Sadat, Syed Muzammil, Mohammed Sahfir were damaged in the rains.
On knowing the damage caused by the rains, MLA H P Manjunath visited the affected villages and assessed the damage caused to home and properties and assured due compensation from the government.
