Heavy rain lashes city: low-lying areas inundated

After a brief lull, monsoon gained momentum as the heritage city received heavy rains on Thursday. The rain that started on Thursday afternoon was so heavy that people were seen scurrying for cover. Many low lying areas were inundated and rain water gushed into several houses in in Bannimantap, Ramakrishnanagar, JP Nagar, Vidyaranyapuram and many other places.

The heavy that continued whole night yesterday uprooted many trees leading to traffic jams in some of the areas.  A huge tree fell on a car in Kuvempunagar causing road block for some time before the police came and cleared it.

The Krishnaraja Sagar (KRS) authorities have started releasing more water from the dam  as the water level in the dam has almost touched 100 feet.
