Heavy rain lashes Mysuru; electric poles uprooted

Mysuru, May 26:- Mysuru received heavy rains on Monday night accompanied by a gusty wind, thunder and lightning. The rain has brought some relief to the citizens who were complaining of extreme heat.

Several areas of the city went powerless due to the heavy rain. A coconut tree fell on an electric line, uprooting the pole on Vidyaranyapuram 1st Main Road. Trees were uprooted at Gokulam, Saraswathipuram, and other areas. Drainage water entered homes at Ramanuja Road, Kalyanagiri, Sharadadevi Nagar, Basaveshwara Nagar and other areas. Two-wheeler riders had a tough time in wading through flooded roads.

Varuna hobli and Jayapura hobli too received good rains. The pre-monsoon showers are helping the farmers to prepare for agricultural activities. Several dried up lakes have received good amount of water.

Periyapattana and surrounding villages have also received good rains on Monday night.

A car rolled over after hitting road divider in front of Jaladarshini Guest House on Mysuru-Hunsur Road, though no casualties were reported in the accident. V V Puram Traffic Police has registered a complaint. (MR/KS)
