Heavy rains lash Cauvery catchment area; water inflow increases in dams

Mandya/Mysuru, July 16:- There is an increased inflow of water to the Krishna Raja Sagara (KRS) Dam in Srirangapattana and Kabini Dam in HD Kote taluk as heavy rains continue in the Cauvery catchment areas.

On Monday morning the water inflow at KRS Reservoir was 66,240 cusecs while the outflow was 80,712 cusecs.  Around 30 crest gates at KRS Dam were been opened and the water released into Cauvery River.

The Wellesley Bridge in Srirangapattana witnessed a large number of enthusiastic villagers and tourists thronging the place to have a glimpse of the gushing waters below the bridge. The water has almost reached the bridge level and it was a common sight of people taking selfies on their mobiles.

More police personnel have been deployed near the bridge area to caution people and the vehicular traffic movement on the bridge is also prohibited.

Similarly the on the banks of Cauvery River near Nimishamba Temple in Srirangapattana is filled to the brim. The pavement vendors who were selling their products on the steps of the river bank have been evacuated. -(HN,KK)
