In a dramatic incident on Tuesday morning, a woman entered an Ayurvedic massage and treatment centre on the Kalidasa Road, locked the centre owner and customers and threatened to commit suicide inside a room. The woman was, however persuaded not to take the extreme step by the public and the police. She was later brought to the VV Puram Police Station.
The woman has been identified as Ashwini, wife of Prashanth, a resident of Raghavendra Layout at Kalyanagiri. Prashanth sells spiritual and other books in a vehicle on pavements and in front of temples.
According to the woman, she has been working at the Ayurvedic massage and treatment centre since three years and was not paid salary for years. The centre is owned by a certain Satish who hails from Kerala. In the past, Ashwini had approached the N R police and had lodged a complaint against Satish and demanded Rs 3 lakh as her salary.
Intervening in the issue, the N R police had summoned Satish and had settled the matter after he paid Rs 3 lakh. Both Ashwini and Satish had affixed their signatures in the settlement paper. Very recently, Ashwini again approached Saraswathipuram police and alleged that Satish was not paying her salary. The police told her that the case does not come under their jurisdiction.
On Tuesday, Ashwini came to the massage centre with a rope and locked up Satish and a few customers in a room and threatened to hang herself. Hearing the commotion, passers-by persuaded her not to take the drastic step and informed the VV Puram police.
Denying that he had not paid Ashwini’s salary, Satish told the police that he had paid all her money every month and also paid Rs 3 lakh as directed by the N R police. He claimed that Ashwini was blackmailing him for more money. V V Puram police have summoned Satish and Ashwini for further interrogation.
