Mysuru, December 1:- “Higher education should give skills to students. But skill alone can’t be education. Along with skills, students should have the knowledge but skill without knowledge will be of no use,” said thinker and writer Dr Gubbigudu Ramesh.
He was speaking after inaugurating 20th annual day at Gangothri Public School and PU College on Bogadi Main Road here on Friday.
“Karnataka is rich in culture. Researches in science, commerce and arts should provide the knowledge required for our survival. Institutions should give a better knowledge and newer experiences for the students,” he added.
“The society stands on the culture the children are given. Parents should give good culture to their children. Parents should encourage their children to take part in sports, music and other cultural activities to overcome the pressure of the computer era. Parents should ask them to read Ramayana, Mahabharata, Bhagavad Gita and other holy stories. It will make them respect their elders. It is our responsibility to identify the talents in children and provide them with a better platform,” he added.
“Extracurricular activities are as important as education. Sports helps in building a healthy society. Students should participate without bothering about results,” said the president of the institution T Rangappa.
Former mayor Chikkanna, corporator Vedavathi, block education officer (BEO) Shivakumar, convener Kanthi Nayak, principal of PU College Sridhar, school principal Zareena Babul and others were present. (MR/GK)
