Highlighting the significance of Int’l Women’s Day

The event was celebrated with much enthusiasm at SBRR Mahajana First Grade College on Tuesday.

SBRR Mahajana First Grade College celebrated the International Women’s Day on March 8 at its college premises.

Assistant Professor of Kannada at Vijaya First Grade College, Pandavapura taluk, who was the chief guest at the celebration highlighted the origins of International Women’s Day and stressed on its historical significance.

He further threw light on the status of women in our society. The discussion, debates and arguments promulgated by Gargi, Maitreyi and others during the Vedic times highlight that women were on par with men and were treated with great respect during those days. Various invasions on India led to restriction of women in our society, he said. Quoting an English writer, he said that the very birth of a girl child is a revolution.

Principal of the college Dr K V Prabhakara also spoke on the occasion. Also present at the event were HoD of Kannada Dr H R Thimme Gowda, K M Mahadev, Prakash and others.
