Hockey player HP Sandhya conferred with ‘Soukya Sports Award’

National hockey player H P Sandhya, a proud Mysurean who is making waves in Indian hockey at junior level was conferred with `Soukya Sports Award’ at the Rotary auditorium on Wednesday.

Rotary Mysore Midtown organised a felicitation ceremony in association with Soukya Travels to confer `Soukya Sports award-2016′ to Sandhya H P for her consistent performance and achievements in the field of hockey. President of Mysuru Travel Agents’ Association C A Jayakumar conferred the award to Sandhya.

Speaking after receiving the award and interacting at the event, Sandhya said “If I am in this position, it’s be¬cause of my mother who sacrificed and took a lot of pain to provide us good education and motivate us to actively take part in the sport. My greatest inspiration is my mother. Though I have attended various national camps, I feel that I need to improve my game and fitness further to represent the country. Being a player from Karnataka, I feel the players in the state were not given much prominence for the nationals and I have witnessed that players from Haryana, Punjab and from other northern states are given more consideration since as they are found to be fit and well trained, compared to us.”

President, Rotary Mysore Midtown K Umesh, Secretary Narendra Babu, Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports Hostels Girls and others were present.
