The Mysore District Police have ascertained that the mysterious death of Madhu Kumari (22) of Chandravadi near Nanjangud taluk, is a case of honour killing.
The victim’s parents Gurumallappa (64), Manjula (48) and elder brother Guru Prasad (26) have been arrested.
According to Superintendent of Police Abhinav Khare said Madhu Kumari’s parents and brother made her drink mango juice mixed with pesticide around 5.45 pm on April 11. An unsuspecting Madhu drank the juice and started vomiting. She was not provided any help and she died at around 8:30 pm.
She was cremated the next morning in a crematorium on the outskirts of the village much against wish of the villagers who urged that proper rituals be followed. However, on a tip off that Madhu’s death could be a case of honour killing, the police registered a case of unnatural death and after questioning her parents subsequently they registered a case of murder following a complaint lodged by her boyfriend Jayaram, the SP added.
He added that five months ago Kumari’s parents and brother got to know of her love affair with Jayaram. On knowing it, they forced her to get engaged to some other boy from Nanjangud town.
