Prime News, Karnataka, Health, Disease, Lockdown, Food, Mysuru, May 29:- Beginning today (May 29), barring Mondays and Thursdays (open for purchase of essentials from 8 am to 12 noon), Mysuru city and district will be under total lockdown till June 7.
In view of the fact that this may cause inconvenience to the public, the district administration, Mysuru City Corporation (MCC), Horticulture Department and Horticultural Producers’ Cooperative Marketing and Processing Society (HOPCOMS) will be supplying vegetables and fruits to different areas with the help of 25 vans.
District In-charge Minister S T Somashekar inaugurated the initiative on Saturday.
Talking to reporters later, he said, “People should not fall short of vegetables and fruits under any circumstances. In view of this, we have roped in the services of 25 vans. They will be buying the vegetables directly from the farmers and selling them to customers till June 7.”
HOPCOMS director Annegowda said, “The district administration has declared total lockdown to fight the pandemic. Minister Somashekar, Mysuru-Kodagu Member of Parliament Pratap Simha, MLAs S A Ramadass and L Nagendra and MCC Commissioner Shilpa Nag have decided to supply vegetables and fruits to all the areas. People need not venture out. Instead, they can buy veggies when the vans come to their areas. This move is definitely not to make money but to help people.”
Shilpa Nag said, “Around 40 HOPCOMS outlets are already operating in the city. These vans will go to areas where there are no HOPCOMS outlets and distribute vegetables and fruits. People need to cooperate with the administration to control the spread of the pandemic.” (MR/KS)
