Hunsur Police arrests highway thieves

Mysuru, January 3:- Within 24 hours of the incident, Hunsur Rural Police have arrested 4 people who had robbed tourists at knifepoint.

The arrested have been identified as Raghavendra, 23, M L Nikhil,19, Keerthi, 20 and Abhishek,19, of Kalkunike in Hunsur town. They had robbed Pradeep, Vasanth, Ranjit, Hemanth, Pramod who were going to Kodagu to celebrate the New Year in a Swift car. They had stopped the car near a hotel beside the national highway at Yashodhapura. But the hotel was closed by then. The miscreants then came on bikes and told that they would get them food from the back door. They took them to a service station nearby and showed them lethal weapons and took the 20-gram gold chain, cash of Rs 7,000. They also took the car key and cell phones and threw them away somewhere. The victims filed a complaint at Hunsur Rural Police Station. DySP Sundar Raj, Circle Inspector Poovaiah, PSI Shivaprakash and staff launched the operation immediately and took the miscreants into custody near Kalkunike Circle.

Police have recovered 20-gram gold chain, Rs 5,800 and knife used for robbery. (MR/KS)
