Mysuru, March 23:- “I studied Philosophy to know what death is and why death affects every being on the earth,” said renowned Kannada novelist Dr S L Bhyrappa here on Thursday.
He was speaking after inaugurating a three-day workshop at EMMRC Auditorium at Manasagangothri on ‘100 years of Philosophy in University of Mysore (UoM) on Thursday.
He explained how the death of his mother, two brothers and two sisters due to plague had affected him.
“Only three students were studying philosophy in the university then. Prof Yamunachar asked me to study Bhitti book to know more about the subject. Another lecturer had told me not to study philosophy as it does not help in future. I told him that I would study philosophy and if I don’t succeed I will open a bakery,” Dr Bhyrappa recalled. He remembered his lecturer Dr. H T Shantha and others on the occasion.
In-charge Vice-Chancellor of the University of Mysore Prof C Basavaraju, UPE director Prof G Hemanth Kumar, Dr S Venkatesh, B N Sheshagiri Rao and others were present. (MR/KS).
