Mysuru, October 25:- GSSS Institute of Engineering and Technology for Women, Mysuru, organised “IEEE Day 2019” under IEEE student branch (STB1786) and IEEE WIE affinity group, GSSSIETW in association with IEEE Bengaluru section on Thursday.
IEEE Day marks a very important event in the history of the world. It is the celebration of the first time in history when engineers worldwide and IEEE members gathered to share their technical ideas in 1884.
IEEE Day’s theme is: “Leveraging technology for a better tomorrow.” While the world benefits from what’s new, IEEE focuses on what’s next. Worldwide celebrations demonstrate the ways thousands of IEEE members in local communities join together to collaborate on ideas that leverage technology for a better tomorrow. On this occasion, various competitions like ‘poster presentation,fractionators and code hunt’ are organised by IEEE. These competitions create a platform to share and exchange ideas of students from various institutions and also encourage their minds to actively involve, interact and to enhance their knowledge.
Sadhana Attavar, treasurer chair-elect WIE IEEE Bengaluru section and curator and head, Electronics, Visvesvaraya Industrial & Technological Museum, was the chief guest.
The inaugural function was presided by Vanaja B Pandit,secretary, GSSS. Dr Shivakumar M, principal, GSSSIETW and convener Dr Parameshachari B D, IEEE student branch counsellor, professor and head, Department of TCE, chief coordinators Anand M, assistant professor, Department of ISE, Aravind R, assistant professor, Department of ECE, IEEE, were present.
Sadhana Attavar addressed the students about the history of IEEE and how a group of electrical engineers formed the American Institute of Electrical Engineers (AIEE) in 1884. She also highlighted the importance of IEEE membership. She listed the benefits of IEEE membership such as knowledge, community, professional discounts, opportunities, magazines, mentoring programmes and conducting collaborate conferences. She also emphasised the importance of WIE (Women in Engineering) membership and advised the students to utilise the benefits of WIE membership. She also conducted a quiz and students who gave the correct answers were presented with goodies.
Dr Shivakumar addressed the students on how the IEEE is known for its standards, quality publications. He advised the students to join IEEE which creates a platform for them to share and exchange ideas with their counterparts from all over the world with professionals and academicians and also insisted the students to conduct more events under IEEE.
