IETE Mysuru celebrates Foundation Day

Mysuru, November 9:- The Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (IETE), Mysuru Centre, celebrated the Foundation Day recently.

Dr Mohana H S, Principal, Navkis College, Hassan was the chief guest and Dr Srikanth PC was the guest of honour. The event was organised by IETE, Mysuru Centre.

Prof Nataraj C R, chairman, IETE, Mysuru Centre; Dr Bhagyashree S R, vice-chairperson, IETE, Mysuru Centre; Dr  Parameshachari B D, secretary, IETE, Mysuru Centre, Professor  and HoD, Department of TCE, GSSSIETW, Mysuru; Dr Narasimha Kaulgud, HoD, E&C Department, NIE, Mysuru; Dr M V Satyanarayana, former professor and head, Department of ECE, GSSSIETW, Mysuru and former principal, Malnad College of Engineering were present. The executive committee members of the IETE, Mysuru Centre, students and faculty from various colleges participated in the event.

IETE, Mysuru Centre, felicitated and conferred the award of Distinguished member to Dr Mohana H S, Principal, Navkis college of Engineering and Dr Srikanth P C, Professor and Head,  Department of ECE, Malnad College of Engineering, Hassan for their outstanding contribution to the IETE and remarkable achievement in their respective fields.

The IETE president Prof P Prabhakar emphasised the importance of skill development to empower students from academic, vocational and informal learning. “The role played by IETE is crucial for students to learn the latest developments in the industry through webinars, conferences, paper presentation competitions which are not available in a curriculum-based academic environment.”

Chief guest Dr Mohana spoke about how the IETE has progressed over the years from its founding in 1953 to the present and emphasised its importance in his speech.

Dr Srikanth expressed concerns on why it is not possible for students to publish research and develop new software and technology from Indian institutes while the same Indian talent does exceptionally well in foreign institutions leading to the development of new software, technology, devices and the likes.

Prof Nataraj shared his experiences and fond memories with the notable guests and expressed joy in being able to conduct the programme physically. The event was coordinated by Pavithra A C, assistant professor, Department of E & C, ATMECE. Vidyashree and Romith Rao, technical officers, IETE, Mysuru Centre. Sanjanav Manohar was the Master of the Ceremony. Syed Sufiyan welcomed the gathering. (MR)
