Over 1.74 lakh students who wrote the II Pre-University (PU) chemistry examination (new syllabus) across the State on Monday have to re-write the paper as the Department of Pre-University Education has announced the cancellation of the exam owing to the leakage of the Chemistry question paper.
A press release from the office of the Director, Department of Pre-University Education, states that it had come to the notice of the department that the Chemistry question paper conducted on March 21, 2016 was leaked and thus stood cancelled.
The date for the re-examination is yet to be decided and would be communicated in due course. A comprehensive investigation is on to identify the source of the leakage and a complaint had been filed with police.
As a preliminary step to conduct a fair and impartial inquiry, the Chief Superintendents and Joint Chief Superintendents, entrusted with supervision of conducting the exam at SASM PU College for women, Gandhinagar, Bellary and Government PU College, Malur in Kolar district, were suspended with immediate effect.
Alternate arrangements have been made at these centers to conduct the examination from tomorrow, the release added. The exam was held at 975 centers across Karnataka.
