Mysuru, July 30:- It is really heartening to know that many of our Indian startups and firms are now coming out with devices and gears to cope with the COVID-19 crisis.

Muse Wearables – an IIT Madras incubated startup has come out with a wearable wrist tracker that will measure body vitals and help in early detection of COVID-19 symptoms. The startup is planning to launch its product next month.

The wristband tracker is a device which is equipped with sensors to track skin temperature, heart rate and SpO2 (blood oxygen saturation). The device can continuously track these body vitals and will help in early diagnosis of COVID-19 symptoms.

As the device is Bluetooth-enabled it can be connected to the mobile phone via an app.  The user vitals and activity data are stored on the phone. As the same data is saved in a  remote server, administrative access can also be provided for centralised monitoring of people in containment areas for COVID-19 symptoms. The beauty of the tracker is that it can get notifications from the Arogya Setu app also. The startup has plans to launch the COVID-19 tracker wrist band in 70 countries where it has a presence.

Months ago when COVID-19 made its entry into our land and people started getting infected India was not manufacturing even a single personal protective equipment (PPE) kit and the health and medical fields were a bit puzzled on how to get these to protect themselves as coronavirus began its fatal round-up. As the virus started spreading its fatal tentacles in the months of February and March there was an increase in the number of patients and those in the health care departments panicked a bit as we didn’t have domestic PPE kit manufacturing units and these were imported. But then many units manufacturing items similar to personal protection equipment came forward, joined hands with the Health Ministry and supported by the state and centre started their mission of producing protective gears and what took place is history!

A statistics report says that on an average our domestic production is around  3 to 4  lakh per day which is truly mind-blowing! A nation which fully depended on foreign import of PPEs now has turned into a PPE manufacturing hub giving a beautiful lesson that nothing is impossible and if we have the guts and determination we can achieve anything.

Now whether it is in the developing and manufacturing of PPE kits, sanitisers, infrared thermometers, face masks and various other equipment needed for dealing and tackling the pandemic our companies, firms and startups have proved that we are second to none. Even in the field of development of the COVID vaccine which has gathered incredible momentum obviously show that our nation is fast turning into a  beacon light to the world in the present COVID crisis and goes to show that if there is a will there is a way. The Prime Minister’s initiative of an ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ is sure to become true if every citizen irrespective of caste, creed, religion and party unite and put in all their efforts to make a self-reliant and strong India.
