Prime Sports, National (Sharjah), October 16:- Virat Kohli’s Royal Challengers Bangalore were handed an 8-wicket defeat at the hands of KL Rahul-led Kings XI Punjab on a nerve-wracking Thursday in Sharjah. The loss was inflicted on RCB by none other than the trio of KL Rahul, Mayank Agarwal and Chris Gayle, who were once an integral part of the Bangalore based franchise.
KXIP’s top three consisting of captain KL Rahul, Mayank Agarwal and Chris Gayle shined as the Punjab-based franchise ended their 5-match losing streak by defeating RCB by 8 wickets.
The franchise’s 2018 tagline ‘E sala cup namde’, which translates to ‘this year cup is ours’, has often led to trolling on social media by rival fans but today RCB were trolled on the account that former RCB players played an important role in the teams 8-wicket hammering vs KXIP.
RCB managed to post 171 runs on the board batting first with the help of skipper Kohli’s 48 off 39 balls and Chris Morris’ late cameo of 8-ball 25. Chasing 172 in a must-win game, the in-form opening pair of Rahul (61 not off 49) and Mayank Agarwal (45 off 25) got off to a flying start before Gayle (53 off 45) joined his skipper in the middle to get KXIP close to the finishing line.
Needing seven off the final two overs with nine wickets in hand, KXIP somehow managed to take the game to the last ball with Nicholas Pooran finally hitting the winning six.
“I have no idea, it’s (heartbeat) the highest it can be. I don’t even have words. We knew we had to scrape and get over the line. We are a far better side than where we are in the points table,” KL Rahul said in the post-match presentation ceremony. (MR, Inputs: Agencies).
