IPL 2019: KXIP beat SRH by 6 wickets

Prime News, National Sport, Cricket, Mohali (Punjab), April 9:- Kings XI Punjab defeated SunRisers Hyderabad by six wickets, thanks to stylish half-centuries from KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal, in a thrilling Indian Premier League (IPL) match at the IS Bindra Stadium on Monday.

Chris Gayle signed off from the ground after the victory on Monday night, breaking into another impromptu Bhangra session just like the way he had earlier in the day on his way to the stadium for the match.

Last season he had scored a hundred against SunRisers Hyderabad in Mohali during a stunning assault, he bashed Rashid Khan for four successive sixes.

Gayle came into the match against SRH having already being the fastest to 4000 IPL runs and the first player to hit 300 sixes in the IPL. But on Monday, Gayle fell early, for 16 runs, to a Rashid Khan delivery which the left-hander tried to hit for a six, but ended up getting caught by Deepak Hooda at long on.

After the dismissal of Gayle, the two Karnataka friends, Rahul and Agarwal got together to take control of the KXIP’s chase. Rahul remained unbeaten on 71 off 53 balls to notch up his third half-century of the season with the help of seven fours and one six, whereas Agarwal scored 55 runs from 43 balls, including 3 fours and 3 sixes. The pair added 114 runs for the second wicket, and yet made heavy weather of SRH’s modest target of 151.

Mohammad Nabi gave just five runs away from the first three balls before Rahul hit a magnificent straight drive for four to then score the winning runs off a David Warner misfield as Punjab won with one ball to spare, putting up 151/4 in 19.5 overs.

Earlier, SRH scored 150/4 in 20 overs. David Warner brought up his 39th IPL 50 and remained unbeaten on 70 off 62.

With this win, Kings XI Punjab moved into the top three in the IPL points table, with 8 points from 6 matches, incidentally piping SRH on net run-rate. In today’s (April 9) match, Chennai Super Kings will take on Kolkata Knight Riders in Chennai. The match begins at 8 pm. (Inputs: Agencies, NGB)
