Prime News, National Sport, Cricket, Bengaluru, April 25:- South African A B De Villiers powered Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) to a 17-run win over Kings XI Punjab at M Chinnaswamy Stadium here last night.
Put in to bat, RCB posted 202 for 4 riding on De Villiers’ 44-ball 82 not out, comprising 3 fours and 7 sixes.
In reply, KXIP managed to make 185 for 7 in the allotted 20 overs, falling short by 17 runs. An early impetus provided by K L Rahul, Chris Gayle looked to have set up another successful chase, and Nicholas Pooran’s 28-ball 46 (1×4, 5×6) threatened to take the game away from RCB. But thanks to some brilliant death bowling by Navdeep Saini (4-0-33-2) and Umesh Yadav (4-0-36-3) pulled things back for the home side to earn two more points.
De Villiers was adjudged ‘Man of the match.’
The win was RCB’s third consecutive after seven straight defeats, and though they are seventh in the eight-team points table, they are still in the race for a place in the play-offs.
The table is led by defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK), followed by Delhi Capitals (DC) at the second spot and Mumbai Indians (MI) at third.
Sixth-placed Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) will play rock bottom side Rajasthan Royals (RR) at Kolkata at 8 pm today (April 25). (Inputs: Agencies, NGB)
