Kamala Karikaalan, who served in Mysore Wildlife Division, on Wednesday assumed charge as the Executive Director of Mysuru zoo.She replaces S Venkatesan, senior IFS officer of 1999 batch. Kamala, a 2009 IFS batch officer, started her probationary period as ACF Social Forestry in 2012-13. Later she served as ACF Nagarahole for four months and was promoted as Director to FTATI, Kadagudi. Since November 2013, she worked as DCF in Mysore Wildlife Division. In three years of her service, she has successfully undertaken many elephant operations and played a crucial role during Dasara.After assuming charge, Kamala said that so far she was just a visitor to zoo. “Now, I should observe, analyse, learn and go on with my work. As a student of Forestry, I have a basic idea about flora and fauna. I think it will be a smooth going.”
On how she would handle the various issues plaguing the zoo, Kamala said, “Wherever you go, there will be problems. You should know how to deal with them. Now, my motto is welfare of the zoo, animals and staff and developmental works.”She later held an interaction with officials of the zoo and took stock of the situation.
