Kambala is a renowned rural sport of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts. It is an annual buffalo race in the dirt tracks made in the paddy fields. Kambala is not just a sport, but is a cultural ambassador for Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts.
Buffalo pairs are made to run on the track made in wet paddy fields. There are competitive and non-competitive types of Kambala. It is conducted at around 20 places in the two districts. The buffaloes participating in Kambala are taken good care and are provided with good quality food.
