Kannada is our breath, says thinker Pa Mallesh

Mysuru, November 5:- “Kannada language is our breath. If we lose our language, it is like losing our breath,” said thinker Pa Mallesh.

He was speaking at Kannada Habba – 2018 organised by Sahrudayi Kannada Balaga of CFTRI here on Monday.

“It is a happy moment. We have been fighting for Kannada in Mysuru for over 50 years. We have come here many times to raise the voice for Kannada. Unfortunately, state and central governments have no interest in protecting regional languages. We may stage a fight, but the governments have no eyes, ears and heart. Let’s teach English to our kids but the medium in schools should be Kannada. The government had assured that it would teach English to Government School students but has not implemented it. We all love English. But it doesn’t mean that we should disrespect Kannada,” he added.

“We should learn Kannada first. We can learn any other language thereafter. I have been saying the same to MLAs and MPs. Once there was a threat to Kannada in CFTRI. During that time, we all stood together for Kannada and got the problem solved. I am happy that the directors of this organisation have been valuing Kannada,” he said.

Director of CFTRI Dr K S M S Raghav Rao, assistant director of Kannada and Culture Department H Chennappa, District Kannada Sahitya Parishat (KaSaPa) president Dr Y D Rajanna, president of Kannada Sahrudaya Balaga  Rangadhamaiah, secretary Dr R Keshav, convener Basavaraju and others were present.
