“The approach that every individual or a group of people has towards a language can help in improving it,” said Chief Manager (administration), Karnataka State Tourism Development Corporation, Dr M R Ravi.
He was addressing a gathering at the Kannada Rajyotsava celebration organised by the Maharani Women’s Arts College in the city on Wednesday.
Dr Ravi said: “Culture teaches us and helps us to know who we are and what we are. But most of the youngsters today fail to understand the meaning of culture and fail to recognise the heritage hidden behind a culture or language. The modern youth lack confidence and are suffering to get a permanent base to settle in life. Mother, mother land and mother tongue play a pivotal role in developing confidence of every individual from his young age.”
“Kannada has a rich heritage of 2,000 years, the contribution of Kannada and the vachanakaras, sharanas and many poets is immense to this nation. Even after the integration of Karnataka there are various issues in many border regions of the state like Goa, Karwar where the process of integration is not strongly imposed,” he added.
Retired Principal of Mysore Medical College Dr H R Damayanthi, Principal of Maharani Arts College Prof B T Vijay and others were present.
