Mysuru, November 16:- “Kannada should be our earning language and also a symbol of our pride,” said Dr Kavitha Rai, Director of Kannada Department of Karnataka State Open University (KSOU), Mukthagangothri.
She was speaking after inaugurating Karnataka Rajyotsava programme, organised by Sri Nataraja Prathishtana on Thursday.
“We celebrate Rajyotsava throughout the state to show the existence of Kannada. The Kannada language is being used in several dialects in the state. The way we speak Kannada varies from place to place. The state includes many other languages along with Kannada. It is not only a language but a powerful medium for us to express. Our language has won three national awards and eight Jnanapeetha awards,” she said.
“Those who don’t know English are not of a dim wit. English is a language for livelihood and it cannot be the voice of your inner self. People should start speaking in Kannada leaving behind their hesitation. We should love our life and our language,” she added.
Educational convener Prof Sathyanarayana, principal of the college Dr M Sharada and others were present. (MR/SH)
