Kapila River overflows; National Highway closed

Mysuru, August 10:- Due to excess water released from Kabini Reservoir, Kapila River is flowing in full swing. With the water flowing over the National Highway 766, vehicular movement between Mysuru and Ooty has been stopped.

Police are making vehicles to use alternate roads. Devotees visiting Nanjangud temple are also struggling due to the flood-like situation. 16 Kalu Mantapa and Snanaghatta in Nanjangud are submerged in water. Suttur Bridge is also submerged for the first time.

80,000 cusecs of water is released from Kabini Dam and 42,000 cusecs of water released from KRS Dam. 1,25,000 cusecs of water has flowed into Mettur Dam in Tamil Nadu in 44 hours. Tamil Nadu is facing flood threat as Mettur Dam is also completely filled. Karnataka is said to have released 150 TMCs of water to Tamil Nadu. (MR/KS).
