With the meeting called by Union Water Resources Minister Uma Bharathi failed to make any breakthrough to the ongoing water dispute between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, the matter will go back to the Supreme Court on Friday at 2 pm.
Having failed to implement the Supreme Court order to release 6,000 cusecs of water to Tamil Nadu for three days Karnataka might find itself in tough times. The state government hoped the meeting convened by Uma Bharati might provide an opportunity to escape from the wrath of Supreme Court. However, the meeting failed to arrive at any decision.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah expressed disappointment with Tamil Nadu, as it rejected Karnataka’s appeal to send a team of technical experts to Cauvery basin reservoirs of both the states to assess the ground realities on water availability. However, Siddaramaiah defended Karnataka’s stand not to release water to TN.
Karnataka has not followed the orders of Supreme Court, the crucial meeting that will be held this morning has caught Karnataka in tight spot.
