Political News, State, (Bengaluru), January 16:-With Karnataka Assembly election fast approaching, the ruling Congress government will soon introduce distribution of free sarees and blouse pieces for women and lungies and shirts to the people living under Below Poverty Line (BPL), government sources said.
The sources said the new scheme was decided to be rolled out by the government within a week, once it gets the nod of the State Cabinet in its next meeting.
Sources close to Textile Minister Rudrappa Lamani quoted him as saying that the new scheme will be a win-win situation for the members of BPL families as well as poor weavers in Karnataka as the state government will be allocating Rs 550 crore per annum towards this new scheme.
In similar ‘Bhagya’ schemes, the state government has rolled out Anna Bhagya offering 7 kg of variety food grains to every member of over one crore BPL families in the state, besides other social schemes like ‘Shadi Bhagya’ for girls getting married among minority communities, Ksheera Bhagya offering milk to children attending Anganwadis for five days in a week, also offering boiled egg to poor children and energy food to pregnant women and new mothers everyday.
