Karnataka Kannada Vedike protests demanding MRC land takeover

Members of Karnataka Kannada Vedike staged a protest in front of the Mysore Race Club (MRC) on Thursday demanding the immediate take over the land that has been leased out to the MRC.

“First of all, the land has been leased out to the MRC and in turn the MRC has sublet the land to the Jayachamarajendra Wodeyar Golf Club (JWGC). The lease period had already expired and the land has not yet been taken over by the government as per procedures,” Vedike President Suresh Babu said.

The 139.39 acres of land in Survey Number 4 and 74 belonged to the government was leased out to the MRC in 1976 for 30 years for a paltry sum. Though the lease expired on March 2016, the land has not been taken over and illegal activities including betting continued to be conducted, he alleged.
