Women’s Rights Activist and Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha Women’s Wing President Nandini Jayaram was honoured with Kavitha Memorial Award on Sunday.
The programme was presided over by Professor, Department of Mass Communication and Journalism Dr N Usha Rani. Writer Aryamba Pattabhi presented the prestigious Award to Nandini Jayaram.
The award presentation was part of lecture programme organised by Yashoda Ra Gow Trust at Swamy Vivekananda Auditorium in Mahajanas Pre University College premises.
Writer Aryamba Pattabhi congratulated Nandini Jayaram and also expressed concern over the present situation of women in the society. “Girls are widely regarded as a burden to Indian society and she has to struggle at every stage. Fortunately, there is a ban on pre-natal sex determination tests and women now have become economically self-reliant,” she said.
“Women like Nandini Jayaram are focussing on the problems faced by the women from farming community and this is appreciable. Most of the women from rural areas are superstitious and this has prevented from them being treated equally. Focus should be on changing the mind-set,” she added. She commended the initiative of Yashoda Ra Gow Trust that has been recognising women achievers.
The event was followed by an endowment lecture by Dr H N Seetha Assistant professor at Government First Grade College Nanjangud on ‘Sports Woman’. Yashoda Ra Gow was present.
