Niranthara, theatre troupe presented a play based on Basavanna’s vachanas, named ‘Koodala sangama: noorara sambrama’ at Kalamandir recently. Senior theatre artist Prasanna and MP Dhruvanarayan formally inaugurated the function by watering mango saplings.
The play, organised by Niranthara Foundation, is written by Prasad Kundoor and directed by Suguna.
Prsanna said response to Kannada theatre is seeing a positive trend since two decades. “This has been helpful in the growth of the theatre. Television is hindering the creativity of people, hence they are returning to theatre. Niranthara troupe has been successful in attracting the young audience. The number of audiences present is the evidence,” he said.
Dhruvanarayan said that Basavanna fought against caste-based inequality and discrimination as early as 12th century. His ideals stand relevant even today.
Kannada activist Pa Mallesh, journalist Rajashekhar Koti, Prasad Kundur, B M Ramachandra and others were present.
