President of Karnataka State Safai Karmachari Commission, M R Venkatesha urged Deputy Commissioner D Randeep to take disciplinary action against officials who failed to attend the meeting held in the city on Wednesday.
Venkatesha, who was upset with the absence of many district officials including Zilla Panchayat CEO, Taluk Panchayat officers, DDPI and assistant commissioners, urged the DC to take strict action against those who failed to attend the meeting. He said, “The progress review meeting held here in the city is one of the important meetings which focused on the welfare of pourakarmikas in the region. But most of the district and Taluk Panchayat officials have failed to attend the meeting. A disciplinary action must be taken against them immediately.”
Most of the officials from the region who had failed to initiate various welfare programmes in various taluks of Mysuru failed to provide supporting documents for the delay. This irked Venkatesha and asked all the taluk heads to give the reason for not taking up the re-survey of manual scavenging within two days.
Before the meeting, Venkatesha visited a few pourakarmika colonies in the city and noted the grievances and problems from them. During his visit, he convinced a girl to continue her studies and promised to provide her all the help.
In the recent health check-up camp organised for the pourakarmaikas of the city, 21 of them out of 1200 are suffering from heart-related problems. On the occasion, officials informed that permanent pourkarmikas working with the MCC can get treated at any private hospital immediately for their disease whereas the others who are still working on temporary basis have been promised to be given best facilities soon.
