The daily bus commuters will be put into inconvenience as the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) employees will go on a state-wide strike from July 25 demanding higher salary. The four transport corporations – KSRTC, BMTC, NWKRTC and NEKRTC would take part in the strike which is likely to begin from the midnight of July 24.
The KSRTC Staff and Workers’ Federation are upset with the unilateral decision of the state government to revise pay by eight percent as against the demand of 35 percent hike by the KSRTC employees.
The federation approached the Chief Minister in this regard on Friday and consequently the talks failed as the CM did not respond to their requisition on the demands of KSRTC employees. More than 1.25 lakh staff is likely to participate in the strike. Nearly 25,000 buses will go off roads from July 25. The federation has blamed the state government for the inconvenience caused to commuters due to the strike.
The 41 demands of the KSRTC workers include better medical benefits, pension and other retirement benefits, rest room facilities to women employees, etc.
