Kumar Malavalli visits NIE in city

Kumar Malavalli, one of the distinguished alumni visited his alma mater – The National Institute of Engineering (NIE) in city, recently.

Kumar who completed his Bachelor of Engineering degree in electrical and electronics engineering from NIE, is an Indian-American technology entrepreneur and philanthropist. In 1995, he founded Brocade Communications Systems with Paul Bonderson Jr. He is currently the chairman and CEO of InMage Systems and as a partner at VKRM Services, a boutique investment firm and has also served on the Boards of the Storage Networking Industry Association and the Fibre Channel Industry Association.

Co-founder of Infosys N R Narayana Murthy and Kumar exchanged pleasantries and recalled thier days as students in electrical engineering in NIE.

The Kumar Mavalli Endowed Chair in Storage Systems Research at the University of California Santa Cruz’s Jack Baskin School of Engineering was established in 2004 following a one million dollar donation from Kumar. Prof Darrell Long, currently holds the Kumar Malavalli Chair.  Kumar is a member of the Silicon Valley Hall Engineering Hall of Fame.

Shivaram Malavalli, younger brother of Kumar Malavalli, accompanied Kumar during his visit to NIE.  Shivaram Malavalli is also an alumnus of NIE.
