The lecturers of Pre-University Colleges on Monday boycotted evaluation of answer scripts of second year PU examinations in protest against the state government’s indifference towards their demands. The evaluation work which was to resume from Sunday at six centres in the city didn’t take off on Monday too following the state-wide agitation by PU lecturers.
The agitating lecturers have been demanding implementation of the recommendations of G Kumar Naik Committee which includes disparities in salary.
Lecturers held protest demonstrations in front of the DC’s office, JSS College on Ooty Road, Mahajana’s College, Marimallappa’s College, Sadvidya Residential College, Maharaja’s and Maharani’s College in the city. The lecturers have reported to their centres for evaluation but have decided not evaluate a single paper till the government caters to their demands. There are 40 centres for evaluation of II PU answer scripts in the state.
The lecturers claimed that the boycott of evaluation work won’t affect the students as the process will be resumed once the government fulfils their demands.
Meanwhile, when ‘City Today’ tried to contact Deputy Director of PU Board K M Puttu, he was not reachable on phone.
It may be recalled that the lecturers and principals had boycotted evaluation for one day last year as a result of which the chief minister promised them that the G Kumar Naik report would be implemented within a month, but it never happened. The report suggested measures to remove pay disparities.
