Legendary Dr TK Murthy to hold 3-day workshop on laya

Mysuru, September 17:- Ganabharathi is organising a workshop on laya by Padmashri Dr T K Murthy at its premises at Kuvempunagar in the city on September 20, 21 and 22. This is a lifetime opportunity to meet and learn from such legendary Mridangam vidwan Dr T K Murthy who would be conducting sessions along with his disciples.

The session would commence on September 20 and 21 at 4 pm and on September 22 at 10 am. The session would cover various aspects such as Tanjavur School, Sulaadi Saptha Talas, approaches to Tani Avarthanam in various talas, Pallavi, 108 Talas, 72 Melakartha Talas, etc.

On September 22, there would be felicitation to Dr Murthy and a Carnatic music vocal concert by vid N R Prashanth, accompanied by Dr Murthy on Mridanga, Mridanga support by vid Ashwini and vid Narashimhan, vid Mathur Srinidhi on Violin and vid Sukanya Ramgopal on Ghatam. Dr Murthy, a nonagenarian, is perhaps the senior-most performing mridangam artiste of the country. Born in 1924 he has very long years of service in the field of performing and has accompanied almost all the stalwarts till date. He has a treasure of knowledge and experience both in teaching and performing.

He is a recipient of  Padmashri Award, Sangeetha Nataka Academy Award, Sangeetha Kalanidhi and Prasarabharathi’s National Artiste. (MR)
