Mysuru, March 21:- “The king of Ganga era, Madhava Mantri had constructed a dam across river Cauvery at Talakadu in 1140 AD. It provided water for 5,000 acres of land. We are taking up development works of the dam in the coming days at a cost of Rs 67 crore as it would help many farmers,” said District In-charge Minister Dr H C Mahadevappa here on Tuesday.
He was speaking after conducting Bhoomi puja for developmental works of Madhava Mantri Dam at Government High School Ground, Talakadu.
The minister also inaugurated bridge across Cauvery River at Kaveripura, a pedestrian bridge to connect Talakadu and Malangi, and performed bhoomi puja for a new hospital for women and children.
“The dam which was constructed 878 years ago was damaged as more than 4 lakh cusecs of water flowed into the dam in 2013. Rs 67 crore has been released for the development of the dam. We have constructed a bridge across Cauvery River at Kaveripura village. New bridge for pedestrians across Cauvery to connect Talakadu and Malangi at a cost of Rs 38 crore. A 30-bed hospital will be constructed at a cost of Rs 8 crore,” he said.
“ITI, degree college, Morarji Desai Residential School, Central School and hostel have been sanctioned for Talakadu. Branch of MDCC Bank is being opened to help women and farmers. I have worked honestly to provide all government benefits for the people of the district,” he said.
Zilla Panchayat president Nayeema Sultana, member Manjunath, T Narasipur taluk panchayat president R Cheluvaraju, town municipal council president Umesh, T Narasipur Housing Vigilance Committee president Sunil Bose and others were present. (MR/KS).
