Mysuru, February 12:- On the eve of Maha Shivarathri celebrations in the city, the golden mask of Lord Shiva was handed over to the Trineshwaraswamy Temple at Mysuru Palace premises on Monday.
As devotees are preparing for the celebrations of Maha Shivarathri tomorrow, the District Treasury handed over the 11 kg golden mask or the Chinnada Kolaga of Lord Shiva to the authorities of Trineshwaraswamy Temple at Mysuru Palace premises amidst tight police security.
The mask along with the ear-rings made of emeralds and other valuables were handed over to the temple priest. During the celebrations of Maha Shivarathri, the idol of Shiva at Trineshwaraswamy Temple will be adorned with the golden mask.
Historians say that the mask was gifted by the then Maharaja Sri Jayachamarajendra Wodeyar to celebrate the birth of his son Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wadiyar in 1953. -(HN,KK)
