Mahadesh ousted as councillor, can’t vote

The Regional Commissioner of Mysuru, M V Jayanti directed the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) to cancel the council membership of corporator C Mahadesh, who is facing life imprisonment in the double murder case of 2008.

According to a Supreme Court verdict, any politician who has been convicted and facing imprisonment for over three years cannot continue as MLA, MP or corporator. Based on this verdict, the Regional Commissioner had directed the MCC to cancel the membership of Mahadesh.

The Mysuru district court had called booked Mahadesh in the double murder and had given him life imprisonment. With the decision to cancel his council membership, Mahadesh can’t participate in the Mayor election for the MCC. The election for the ward 32, which Mahadesh represents, has to be held within the next 6 months.
